“A high-performance of uniaxial alignment of electrospun nanofibers was realized by introducing an inclined gap into dual collectors that consisted of two conductive strips. Because the two strips that were configured horizontally and vertically had a height difference from the inclined gap, the electrospun nanofibers were

sequentially suspended across the edges of strips in a well-aligned and regularly distributed form. Some parameters, such as concentration of solution, applied voltage, and spinning distance were considered for the successful suspension and formation of the aligned electrospun fibers. The method could improve the properties of nanofiber alignment and allow for easy selleck chemicals transfer onto other solid substrates or devices. The alignment technique used polycaprolactone, which resulted in continuous and well-aligned nanofibers with diameters ranging from 500 to 700 nm. Furthermore, it is suggested that repetitive transfer be used to SB273005 achieve a higher density of aligned nanofiber arrays. This would enlarge the applicability

of nanofibers, especially for the tissue engineering field. (C) 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 120: 1800-1807, 2011″
“Deja vu aura is a well-known phenomenon experienced by some patients with epilepsy. This study sought to explore the relationship between verbal memory and the experience of deja vu or other types of mnemestic auras in 42 individuals with intractable seizures and 42 age- and education-matched patient controls. Verbal memory was assessed with indices of learning, long delay recall, and recognition from the California Verbal Learning Test. Entinostat purchase Results indicated that auras of any type were not associated with memory performance on the California Verbal Learning Test. As expected, age and education were related to verbal memory performance. Mnemestic auras were associated with clinical indices of illness, suggesting that the presence of these auras may be regarded as a risk factor for greater chronicity and severity in epilepsy.

“The effects of heat treatment on the survival of isolated Ephestia kuehniella Zeller larvae were examined. Larvae were treated in a specific device at a temperature range of 46 to 70 degrees C. Statistical analysis of the data demonstrated that the thermal survival kinetics was best represented by a 2-parameter Weibull model above 50 degrees C. The mortality of larvae only occurs beyond a critical temperature of 41.6 degrees C +/- 2.5 degrees C. A 20 axial-symmetric model of heat transfer (convection, microwave at 915 MHz) was developed for cocoa bean and date palm. It was combined with the survival rate of larvae (Weibull model) and some z-values (from literature) are used for calculating a “”food quality index”" degradation kinetics.
