92 mu m and a higher Zeta potential of – 17.10 mV than the suspended cells with a cell size of 6.81 mu m and Zeta potential of – 32.90 mV. The immobilized microalgae cells displayed a total lipid content of 14.85%, and a chlorophyll content of 3.36%, slightly higher than those obtained from the suspended cells. CONCLUSION: These differences are critical to further explore the impact of immobilized microalgae cultivation systems for specific biotechnological applications. “Doped-barrier heterostructure varactor diodes are suggested

for efficient frequency multiplication of the microwave radiation. It is shown that the efficiency of the heterostructure-barrier varactor is significantly enhanced if the undoped barrier is replaced by the doped one. The

BV-6 inhibitor analysis is carried out using Boltzmann statistics. The analytical results are compared to the Wnt activity results of Monte Carlo simulations obtained by taking into account Fermi-Dirac statistics. The results of Monte Carlo calculations of the capacitance-voltage characteristics of the In(0.53)Ga(0.47)As/AlAs and InN/GaN doped-barrier varactor diodes are presented.”
“The rice fermented by Monascus, called red mold rice (RMR), and has a long tradition in East Asia as a dietary staple. Monascus-fermented dioscorea called red mold dioscorea (RMD) contains various metabolites to perform the ability of reducing oxidative stress and anti-inflammatory response. We used Wistar rats and induced diabetes by injecting streptozotocin (STZ, 65 mg/kg i.p.). RMD was administered daily starting six weeks after disease onset. Throughout the experimental period, significantly (P < .05) lowered plasma glucose, triglyceride, cholesterol, free

fatty acid and low density lipoprotein levels were observed in the RMD-treated groups. The RMD-treated diabetic rats showed higher activities of glutathione disulfide reductase, glutathione reductase, Ruboxistaurin order catalase and superoxide dismutase (P < .05) in the pancreas compared with the diabetic control rats. RMD also inhibited diabetes-induced elevation in the levels of interleukin (IL)-1 beta, IL-6, interferon-gamma and tumor necrosis factor-alpha. Pancreatic beta-cells damaged by STZ in the RMD supplemented groups were ameliorated. The results of this study clearly demonstrated that RMD possesses several treatment-oriented properties, including the control of hyperglycemia, antioxidant effects, pancreatic beta-cell protection and anti-inflammatory effects. Considering these observations, it appears that RMD may be a useful supplement to delay the development of diabetes and its complications.”
